An Aiken County man William R. Holley 32 of Talatha Road was found dead in his wrecked car with a gunshot wound near Zion Field Church property on secondary road 816 five miles from New Ellenton. Autopsy planned at Medical College of South Carolina and case under investigation.
Willie J. Boyd, suspended without pay on February 25 for alleged grand larceny, resigns as Aiken recreation director with deep regret. Acquitted on July 13, he receives back pay for the suspension period. City Manager Windham notes no further financial terms. Mike Strickland remains acting director pending replacement.
Graniteville Company in Aiken County reports a 1982 second quarter net loss of 1 151 000 versus 1 926 000 profit a year earlier. Six month figures show a 6 574 000 loss versus 1 781 000 earnings. Management expects the third quarter to hit recession lows and is cutting overhead and staffing to lean the operation.

U S government data show consumer prices up 1 percent in June driven by a 5.4 percent jump in gasoline. Fuel oil energy costs also rose with housing and food prices lifting the index, while annual inflation sits around 7.1 percent over twelve months.
The Senate approved a 99 billion three year tax increase to lift the economy, boosting cigarette taxes, phone levies, and medical deduction limits while trimming federal spending by about 17.5 billion. The measure, backed by President Reagan, passed 50 to 47 as differences with the House loom.
