Habitat charity marks 27th home as volunteers build anew
Aiken County Habitat for Humanity celebrates seven home builds this year with a 27th project underway. The group recently completed its 26th home on Representative Drive, presenting a Bible and keys to Rhonda Baynard’s family during a 30 minute ceremony. Lisco and Elaine Smith anticipate House No. 27, while volunteers credit broad community dedication.

Cheryl and Steve Black helped establish a sister city relationship between Aiken and Shoalhaven through Partners In Friendship after meeting Australian equestrians in 1996. Plans include school and artist exchanges, plus possible teacher and professor exchanges. A trip to Shoalhaven for Sydney 2000 Olympics fans may cost about 1700 dollars. Beanie Babies Draw Crowd At USCA Fund-Raiser
About 300 people attended the Mid-Summer Collectibles Show at the University of South Carolina Aiken to view and buy Beanie Babies and baseball cards. Thirty vendors from NC SC and GA set up in the Student Activities Center. The event, a fundraiser for Pi Epsilon Mu, featured door prizes every half hour and highlighted Beanie Babies as the main draw.
