Regions to merge with Bullsboro Bank in newnan Georgia

Regions Financial Corp officials announced a merger agreement with Bullsboro Bancshares of Newnan Georgia exchanging 3.65 Regions shares for each Bullsboro share in a deal valued at about 35.6 million. Bullsboro owns the Bank of Newnan with assets of 108 million and deposits of 93 million. Regions reported second quarter earnings of 89.6 million, up 16 percent from last year, and per share earnings of 60 cents.

Valley to honor veterans park plan for Horse Creek Valley

Burnettown aims to create the Horse Creek Valley/Midland Valley Veterans Park on a two block land grant along S C 421 and Maple Street near Lynwood. Funds include a 3000 dollar town contribution and bricks sold at 100 dollars for two lines or 50 dollars for one line to honor living veterans from World War II Korea Vietnam and other actions. The group plans a gazebo a monument and flag surrounded seating with landscaping by local residents and a hoped county land release decision by August 5.

Education panel selects Barnet to lead SC reform drive

William Barnet, president of William Barnet and Son, was elected Friday to head the Education Oversight Committee guiding public school reforms in South Carolina. The panel, with a 600000 dollar budget, aims to set standards, hire staff, seek corporate donations, review tests, fund alternative schools, and mentor principals in underperforming districts. Clara Heinsohn was elected vice chairwoman.

County opens door for elections job

The Aiken County Registrations and Elections office invites applicants for its top post with a July 30 deadline. Denton Johnson plans to retire at year end but will remain through the November 3 general elections. Early applicants include two known and a growing field expected to reach at least a half dozen. The position pays about $34 000 annually and the posting has circulated through the county.

Voter office posts vacancy with 17 day applications

A week ago the voter office opened a vacancy with 17 days to apply. The job requires substantial knowledge of voting laws, clear communication, and computer familiarity. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s in business administration or political science or at least five years in voter registration. The executive director runs daily operations, maintains voter files, informs the public about elections, trains poll managers, and directs staff.
