Stay Sought In Remap Order In Senate Plan

South Carolina attorneys seek a federal court stay to block disputed Senate redistricting sections from being used in any compromise to let this year’s elections proceed. A three judge panel ordered the state to halt efforts to submit those districts to a Columbia court weighing an interim plan. The plan passed last November lacks clearance by the Justice Department or the Washington court under the Voting Rights Act, with a hearing set for Oct. 22.
