Aiken Community Hospital Boosts Local Medical Talent

National Avoid Boredom Week kicks off with St Swithin's Day

The week of July 15 21 is National Avoid Boredom Week. St Swithin's Day opened the excitement with a local event as Claude Howard founder of youth league baseball in the Valley threw out the first ball before a Dixie Youth League tournament. Howard aged 65 used a knuckleball a curve and a sidearm while tossing to his grandson Marty Brown. John Watson describes a frequently grumpy coworker who would complain even at a $100 bill corner being bent.

Weather Outlook Sees Clear Nights With Warm Daytime Temps

The forecast calls for a clear night with lows in the upper 60s. Rain chances stay near zero and rise to about 10 percent tomorrow. Wednesday should be sunny and warm with highs in the mid 90s.

The North Augusta City Council meets at 8 p m with new business on street lighting and parking lot lights at Riverview Park water transmission main improvements amendments to the EDA application changes to the pay plan and zoning board appointment. Solar Flares Cause TV Interference in Aiken Area

Massive solar flares last week disrupted television reception in Aiken with scrambled pictures for about 45 minutes to an hour. Interference recurred intermittently Friday through Sunday as solar activity affected North Atlantic transmissions while local stations reported no equipment failures.

Jet Drops Fuel Cell On Highway

A 300 pound jet fuel cell from a Marine TA-4 training plane fell on S. C. 125 between Beech Island and North Augusta. No injuries or major damage reported. Civil Defense Director Mauney said the mangled cell held about 20 to 40 gallons and the onscene fuel did not ignite. The plane was on a round robin flight from Parris Island to Jacksonville and back.
