Board weighs demolition and new cottages for inn site

The Design Review Board discussed Thomasson’s plan to relocate the brick foundation and add a two story 3000 square foot apartment building on the south, plus a 4500 square foot cottage on the north and a three story 4500 square foot cottage facing Pendleton Street. Architect Mike Holland urged tearing down both buildings as uneconomical to renovate under current energy codes. Board members noted fire safety concerns without sprinklers but favored restoration and new construction as better for the area.
