Tens of thousands gathered in Zocalo in front of the presidential palace as Cuauhtemoc Cardenas renewed claims of fraud in Mexico's election. He cited faulty voter rolls and duplicated names, while supporters estimated at 300,000. The Institutional Revolutionary Party won with about 50 percent for Carlos Salinas de Gortari, who takes office on December 1. The party pledged to defend the official vote count by legal means.
