Camp Success gives high schoolers glimpse of manufacturing
Aiken Technical College and the Silver Crescent Foundation ran Camp Success with ninth and tenth graders from local high schools. Students toured Pepperidge Farm AGY Bridgestone Tognum America and Cytec, learned teamwork and problem solving, and explored engineering careers.

USC Aiken students win McNair research honors
Three USC Aiken students Adam Port Margaret McCoy and Jamila Hagen earned second place in their fields at the McNair Undergraduate Research Conference in Atlanta. Port won the McNair Distinguished Scholars Award for his Fukushima study, Hagen explored early Islamic thought in Persian literature, and McCoy examined health foods and artificial sweeteners in nursing research. Port is a 28 year old USCA chemistry major and Air Force veteran. Hagen is 26 from England living in Aiken. McCoy is a Pelion native nursing student.

At a Tuesday meeting the Aiken County Board of Education will seek ways to offset a $670,000 loss in state funding after the Education Foundation Supplement was cut in the 2012-13 budget. Possible steps include using flexible state dollars and tapping the district fund balance while pruning any new items with conditional approval.
