City of New Ellenton to Hold Council Meeting Monday

Energy Codes Training Workshops in Aiken July 18

Energy Codes Training Workshops to be held at ATC July 18 combine efforts of the Aiken Technical College, the U S Department of Energy, the South Carolina Energy Office and Clemson University. Two four hour sessions cover Residential and Commercial Energy Codes with lectures by Ward Buzzell and Ray Schneider. Fee is 50 dollars per course and credits are approved. IJIT faith message spreads from Aiken teacher

IJIT faith outreach gains traction at South Aiken

In a story of faith and outreach, 30s-era coach Young and his wife Tami champion IJIT as a witnessing tool. They crafted a letter a brother, a T shirt, and a bracelet with NJIT logo to spread God’s love. Pastor Reverend Richard Swift of Cedar Creek Baptist notes IJIT prompts questions about faith. Other faith initiatives like PUSH and SYTJ gain similar traction as Young credits the idea with guiding youth and coaching challenges.

Two Tigers leads Hogansville plant buyout group

Aiken based Two Tigers Holding joins Medco Investments to acquire the former Uniroyal plant in Hogansville Georgia. Hogansville Acquisition Corp will own the conveyor belt facility with Mark E. Daniels as president and CEO. Kingsmore will chair the new company while praising the deal and growth potential. The plant employs about 200 workers and Goodyear is a major customer.

Sunrise Rotary showcases Africa through tapes and slides

Sunrise Rotary members heard Africa described by Jeff and Nadine Bergamyer of Evans Go African Treks. Nadine, a native, narrated slides on South Africa’s 900 bird species and 16 percent of the globe’s biodiversity. They highlighted seasons opposite the US and debated pleasant Christmas visits, Kruger National Park, and Cape Town as top attractions.

ACSO Seeks Reserve Deputies and RSVP Volunteers

The Aiken County Sheriff Office invites applications for the ACSO Reserve Deputy Program a 14 week training starting August 21. Recruits earn a Class 8 certification upon completion and serve at least 20 hours monthly. Applications due by August 3 with details from ACSO records division or Training Division at 642-1780 RSVP seeks volunteers 55 and older to help weekly in offices and other tasks including a Barney doll program and filing.

Apartment renovation finds belongings in vacant unit

A Moneta Street owner reported furniture and papers left in a unit expected to be vacant for renovations. A man arrived at public safety HQ Thursday claiming to be assaulted after a car incident. A Richland Avenue caller was arrested for filing a false report. A Park Avenue light fixture caused 200 damage to an Eagle Talon. Saturday draws for Georgia Lottery were delayed due to technical issues.
