Teen driver killed in head on crash near North Augusta
A 15 year old teen driver Ashton Raymond Groomes died when his 1995 Nissan truck slammed into another vehicle on Belvedere Clearwater Road near Cherry Avenue at 6 50 pm. Groomes was not wearing a seat belt and five other children traveled in the truck including four in the bed. A 34 year old passenger Michael Batchelor of Warrenville was in the cab and listed in fair condition at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital. Charges are pending against Batchelor and blood alcohol tests will be run on both drivers.

Cops remove child from car in busy parking lot
A 19 year old Graniteville woman was taken into custody after officers found an 11 month old asleep in an unlocked car while she shopped at Rose's on Richland Avenue. Officer Wilson Dandy retrieved the child and placed her in an air conditioned patrol vehicle.

Storm knocks out power in Aiken County area
Scattered outages were reported around Aiken and North Augusta Thursday evening after afternoon thunderstorms. SCE&G logged 150 outages, crews restoring lines overnight in North Augusta until 1 a.m. and Aiken until about 4 a.m. Power was back on by morning. Lightning strikes and downed power lines caused the failures. An Aiken Electric Cooperative spokesperson was not available for comment. Unseasonably cool, with scattered showers expected today and Saturday.
