Dueling, Politics and Violence Mark Edgefield History
Dr. Tom Mack discusses Edgefield figures from 19th century scandal and power. Wigfall killed Brooks's nephew in a duel while Brooks and allies sparked further fights. Preston Brooks later attacked Charles Sumner on the Senate floor. Tillman killed a man in a card room, fled to California, then returned to serve in Congress. The era shows a thin line between Old South and Wild West.
