Bamberg man charged with senior's murder

Bamberg police charged 28 year old Anthony Christopher Washington with one count of murder and first degree burglary in the stabbing death of 83 year old Sarah Carter Brown. Washington is jailed without bond as investigators say he acted alone and robbed as a probable motive. Funeral services for Brown were scheduled for First Baptist Church Bamberg with burial in South End Cemetery.

Aiken Planning Commission Forms Comprehensive Task Force

The Aiken Planning Commission announces a 16 member Growth group task force to review the Comprehensive Land Use and Transportation Plan. Led by vice chair Ed Woltz, members include Marvin Brown NAACP Barry Adams Chamber of Commerce Peggy Burney Garden Club Council John Cunningham Aiken Downtown Development Association John Oak representing Open Land Trust and others with four at large seats. The southside review begins first with plans to meet by end of August.

Nuclear pioneers eyed as key to power boom

Aiken Prep clears approval hurdle for relocation

Aiken Preparatory School won city approval to annex 40 acres west of Foxchase and south of Hitchcock Woods, clearing the way for a full site plan and permitting. Headmaster Don Fudge said the move keeps the August 2002 target, with four new campus buildings in design and eco friendly features planned. the current downtown site remains under consideration. The Aiken Corporation eyeing residential development on the downtown property, with a conceptual plan already submitted.
