Six members of Aiken's 450th Ordnance Company are set to depart Saudi Arabia Friday and are expected to land in Philadelphia Saturday morning before flying to Augusta Bush Field. Spokesman Henry Holmes said Nashville is an unlikely hub, with possible landings in Charlotte, Raleigh Durham, Atlanta, or Nashville. The unit has been on active duty since Sept. 27 and plans a patriotic welcome ceremony for veterans on August 23 and 24 in Augusta.
A commuter plane attempting to land in an electrical storm crashed into two houses near Birmingham Municipal Airport. Thirteen onboard died. four people on the ground were injured.
