The group recalls Fox Drive-in theaters, five and dime stores, Gene's Cafe jukebox booths, and radio eras with Elvis, the Supremes, and the Beatles as they approach their 60th birthdays in 2006.

Historic building in Aiken hosts library and learning legacy

The hilltop building on Chesterfield Street, once a bustling education hub for Aiken, now houses the Aiken County Public Library. Chartered in 1888, the Aiken Institute began amid a $5,000 fundraising effort by local figures, with property later expanded to include the former Aiken Academy site. The school met in a wooden precursor until 1891, as the new structure was built and merged with Aiken Academy in 1890.
