Old Mizpah Church to be Retired From History
Mizpah Church, a rare antebellum rural worship hall in Bamberg County South Carolina, with eight elderly members, faces dissolution of its trust as United Methodist officials consider selling or transferring the property. Five founding families and extended kin vow to preserve the structure as a historic church. St. George Mayor David Sojourner notes the sacred heritage and echoes a last survivor of a fading rural meeting house tradition.
