The Aiken County Board of Education voted 4-1 with one abstention not to seek a tax millage increase referendum. ACEA urged a 13 percent pay hike for principals, assistants, and teachers to compete with industry and other districts.
President Carter and 6,500 mourners gather in Tokyo for the memorial honoring Prime Minister Masayoshi Ohira who died of a heart attack. Carter praises Ohira as a friend and wise counselor and meets Chinese Premier Hua Guofeng on the eve of their brief discussions.

Robert Russell notes inflation is not over amid June wholesale price gains and energy price declines. Unemployment is forecast to peak near 8.5 percent with 8.9 million jobless.

The store in a mobile home hooked to its own generator to operate and lacks full building code compliance and may test the new pornography ordinance effective June 24. Stage 9 opened June 14 but is also illegal.
