President Carter met with auto industry and union leaders in Detroit to unveil a package of loans and regulatory relief aimed at easing the shift to smaller, fuel efficient cars. The plan includes $50 million in aid next year, $200 to $400 million in dealer loans, faster depreciation, and pollution regulation relief.
The Labor Department reports wholesale inflation moderated to 6.3 percent annual in Q2 1980 with June prices up 0.8 percent. Through June, 1980 inflation at wholesale level runs 12.4 percent year to date, energy costs fell 0.6 percent easing the surge from earlier in the year.
