Black Caucus Resolution Not Likely in South Carolina
In Columbia, Rep. Palmer Freeman says a Black Caucus backed effort to extend the Voting Rights Act faces low odds this year as the House Judiciary Committee will not meet again. The proposal asks Congress to extend pre clearance provisions governing changes to voting laws in SC and other states. About 50 Black and a few White attendees supported the measure, with Judith Thompson of the League of Women Voters praising the act for enfranchising minorities.
