Board Debates Tax Hike Referendum for School District
In January the Board proposed a referendum to seek public support for higher property taxes to fund the district, initially asking for a 50 mill increase. Delegation changes reduced this to 11 mills and the Board opposed the shift. A May offer for limited autonomy with a five mill cap was denied, delaying any referendum for 1981 82 funds and pushing possible 1982 83 funding. The district may rely on state finance act and reassessment if no referendum occurs.
