Drownings rise in Lake Michigan tragedy near Warren Dunes

Coast Guard and local officials updated the Lake Michigan drowning tally as five people were confirmed dead after a group entered the water to help a 12 year-old boy. Rescues continued for two missing climbers while two other victims were already recovered. Weather and strong rip tides contributed to multiple drownings across Warren Dunes, Cherry Beach, and Harbert Beach with no lifeguards posted. Authorities warned swimmers as red flags and PA system advisories issued cautionary notices amid ongoing search efforts.
