Swimmers beat the heat at Richardson's Lake Park

Hundreds of Aiken families cool off at Richardson's Lake Water Park in Warrenville on a hot Saturday. Langley family members and others enjoy sun and sand as owners Bill and Gail Wertz prepare a five month season each spring. Police report calm holiday with DUI enforcement statewide

The Fourth of July weekend in Aiken County shows no fatal incidents so far as South Carolina Highway Patrol increases sobriety checks. Cpl. Tony Bell says DUI saturation drives their main enforcement while other violations get occasional attention. Public Safety reports at least three DUI arrests in Aiken city and two in North Augusta, with sobriety stops aimed at reducing drunk driving.

Modern Pit Facility Could Boost Aiken Economy

The Savannah River Site proposal would affect the local economy by drawing in high tech talent to feed area colleges and private sector growth. Fred Humes of the Economic Development Partnership of Aiken and Edgefield counties predicts strong private sector recruitment and longer term employment.
