Au die Murphy the most decorated World War II hero was ordered by Municipal Court Judge Henry H. Draeger to stand trial in Los Angeles Superior Court July 20 on charges of assaulting dog trainer David Gofstein and related actions last May 18. Gofstein, 51, alleges Murphy beat him slapped his wife pulled a gun and fired it as they fled the house over dog training fees. Murphy, 45, pleaded innocent at arraignment May 28 calling the accusation comical.
Cassius Clay’s appeal against his 1967 Houston conviction for refusing induction into the armed forces was rejected by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The court upheld the sentence of five years and a $10,000 fine, and wiretap evidence was deemed not to have influenced the verdict.
