The Aiken County Registration and Elections Commission will meet North Augusta officials at 5 30 pm Monday to discuss a special election to fill the council seat vacated by Kent Sullivan. Sullivan resigned after being charged with DUI and related offenses. If a primary is required it would be held on Sept 11 with a general election following by the seventh Tuesday after the eleventh.
The United Citizens Party nominates Kevin Gray a Black Columbia activist as gubernatorial candidate in a race that could affect Hodges rival Mark Sanford. Gray says his run expresses discontent with both major parties and cites Hodges handling of Ricky Johnson’s May execution as a turning point.
