Summer school helps local youths make the grade
Migrant children aged 2 to 14 attend a summer program at J D Lever Elementary in Aiken County offering reading, math, computers, PE and Spanish. About 119 students, many language learners, seek enrichment to catch up or stay ahead while juggling frequent moves and farm work with parents. Margaret Armesdariz notes the program boosts confidence and critical thinking, aiding a jump start to the regular year.
