Five Drownings Reported During July Fourth Weekend in South Carolina
A state Natural Resources Department spokesman said five people are feared dead in waterways across South Carolina during the holiday weekend. A boater in Georgetown County is also assumed drowned after observers saw his unoccupied boat circling Sunday. In Lexington County a Wind sor boy named Rodriques Terrace Danley drowned on his seventh birthday while swimming near Lake Murray Dam and a Lexington woman reported being struck by a swimmer’s legs in shallow water before the incident was noticed.

Video poker ends in South Carolina as machines are unplugged
At 12:01 a.m. Saturday video poker ceased in South Carolina with machines unplugged. By Sunday in North Augusta empty lots marked the demise of a multi million dollar business. Local vendors laid off workers and removed machines as courts upheld the law ending video poker. Attorney General Charlie Condon ordered removal by July 8. Gambling workers file unemployment in South Carolina
About 300 video gambling industry workers filed unemployment claims on Monday after the industry’s ban took effect Friday night. A temporary court order briefly protected some operators before being superseded by a Supreme Court order. SLED seized 18 machines and inspected most of the 9,400 businesses with machines.
