The City of Aiken parks department hosts the Summer Concert Series at Hopelands Gardens this evening featuring the Parris Island Marine Band at 7 p.m. on the Roland H. Windham Performing Arts Stage. The 50 enlisted musicians plus one officer will play marches classics jazz patriotic and contemporary pieces ahead of Independence Day celebrations.
Construction for Ventures Industrial Park begins with Newman Technology Inc as first tenant. City workers install sewer water and roads while Newman prepares a 220000 square foot plant. Groundwork aims for late summer completion and January 2001 operations.
A Windsor seven year old, Rodriques Terrace Danley, drowned while swimming in three feet of water near Lake Murray Dam off Highway 6 on the Lexington side. Resuscitation efforts failed after he was pulled to shore by a Columbia man and taken to Lexington Medical Center. The death follows another July Fourth drowning of 7 year old Casey Elisha Davis II in Clemson's Twelve Mile Park.
A Greenville woman, Etta L Goodlett, 31, was killed when another driver ran a red light near her home. Seven people died during the Fourth weekend, with a Greenville man charged with reckless homicide. Other fatalities occurred in Sumter, Anderson, York, Lexington, and Lancaster counties, involving overturned vehicles and wildlife swerves.

Lamback’s wife Mary teaches at Byrd Elementary and their family includes a daughter in Atlanta and a son studying computer science at S C State University.
