The South Carolina Education Lottery reports 3.36 percent growth from 2007 to 2008, below national trends. While statewide sales grow modestly, some gas station attendants note sharper ticket purchases as residents seek hope amid tight finances.
A storm moving from New England is forecast to blanket the Northeast with more than a foot of snow and bring a wintry mix to the Southeast along the I 95 corridor. Thunderstorms with torrential rain damaging winds hail and a few tornadoes are expected to hit parts of Florida Georgia and the Carolinas as cold and warm air clash. The best chance of snow for Aiken is Tuesday morning as temperatures drop after a warm weekend.
The Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce held its 91st annual awards dinner with a U S S Aiken theme and about 500 attendees. Dana Coontz received the 2008 Ambassador of the Year for dedicated volunteer work while Keely Reichel earned Youth of the Year and a $2000 scholarship from Shaw Areva Max for community impact.
The 8A section lists Ambassador Dana Coontz Youth Keely Reichel Small Business Holley Heating and Air Conditioning Large Business Kimberly Clark Woman Barbara R Morgan and Man Fred Humes as 2008 winners. The entries reflect distinct community honors across categories.
