The University of South Carolina College of Criminal Justice will call 1,200 South Carolinians from all counties using random digit dialing from Feb 6 to Feb 21. The annual poll's results will be released to the public in early April.
The State survey shows 68 percent support capital punishment with 47 percent favoring drugs for executions over the electric chair, 60 percent want a unanimous jury verdict, and 53 percent approve the governor's power to commute. The poll of 509 adults was conducted Jan 21–22 with a 4.4 point margin.
An 80 percent chance of rain tomorrow with a mid 50s low and a high in the low 60s. Saturday to Monday show continued rain and clouds with cooler highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s to 30s.

A Thurmond spokesman said the 1986 national budget includes funds to continue development and study of the new production reactor. The DOE noted the project may be shelved, though officials stressed no decision has been taken. The NPR would be built at Savannah River plant among sites and would create thousands of local jobs if approved.
The Commerce Department reports the Index of Leading Economic Indicators fell 0.2 percent in December and revises November gains to 0.6 percent. Despite a 3.9 percent GNP rise in Q4 and a 0.5 percent rise in personal income, the composite index showed weak momentum with three straight monthly declines, a potential recession signal.
