Minor Tritium Release At Savannah River Plant Declared
DOE officials label a late Thursday tritium release at the Savannah River Plant as a very very minor event. About 9 500 curies were released equating to 0.01 to 0.04 millirem at the site boundary with no exposure or health risk. The release followed a procedural error by a technician during equipment replacement and a malfunctioning valve which has since been replaced. The state notification was made to Georgia and South Carolina as a precaution.
