Ice Storm Tales of an Icebound Everest

A humorous column recounts an ice storm and the author’s clumsy trek to feed two ducks. Aiken District Annual Report Highlights Awards and Programs

The Aiken Conservation District annual report notes the Ladies Auxiliary as Outstanding in the Edisto-Savannah Valley for a second year. It covers the Awards Meeting for the Essay Contest, the District Speaking Contest, and a stewardship outreach by Chaplain Tommy Knotts. It lists district commissioners and associates, 14 sediment and erosion control plans reviewed in 1982, and notes the district’s unique sediment control ordinance. A $300 conservation scholarship was awarded to Thomas G. Paschall Jr. in December, a Clemson forestry senior. The report also mentions a used motor grader purchase, support from the SC Association of Conservation Districts Foundation, literature distribution to ministers, and a second-place finish in the state Goodyear contest.
