Public Safety Agency Nears Accreditation in Vancouver
Major J Wayne Merritt of New Castle County Delaware said an agency must meet all mandatory standards and 80 percent of optional ones to earn accreditation. ADPS was compliant with all mandatories and 99 percent of optionals. A public hearing is set before the 21 member commission in Vancouver March 18 21. Captain Richard D Abney noted financial benefits including lower liability costs and stronger defense against lawsuits.

UNC study links radiation exposure to multiple myeloma risk
A UNC Chapel Hill epidemiologist led a NIOSH funded study of 115 143 workers at DOE sites including Hanford and four DOE facilities. The research found a 7 percent increased risk of multiple myeloma per rem of radiation for workers aged 45 and over, with higher incidence among people over 50 and among blacks, while gender showed no distinction.
