State jobless rate stays under 4 percent

South Carolina’s unemployment rate edged up to 3.7 percent in December from 3.5 percent in November, remaining below 4 percent since October. The state added 8,400 nonagricultural jobs, led by 4,900 in trade as holiday hiring rose, while services grew by 100. Williamsburg County rose to 11.1 percent from 10.4 percent a month earlier.

SPCA sends puppies north in search of adoptive homes

Twenty three puppies left the Aiken SPCA for a new life in Middleton Massachusetts. Jim Gornall and Melissa Wittum drove 18 hours to deliver the pups to Paw Safe rescue. Caniglia noted the need to verify homes and said about forty pups were planned for Middleton but many were adopted before departure.
