Social conservatives pull for GOP 2016 contenders in prayer events
As Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney seek elite donor backing, a bloc of right flank hopefuls presses evangelicals and social conservatives. Bobby Jindal led Louisiana’s The Response rally at LSU, while Ben Carson spoke at Houston’s Second Baptist Church during the If My People conference. In Iowa and South Carolina, candidates like Ted Cruz and Rick Perry joined Rey, as Romney and Bush sat out. The turnout signals that primary voters who identify as social conservatives remain pivotal in nominating a GOP candidate.
