Bomb threat shuts Paramount Studios. man surrenders

A man claimed 5000 pounds of dynamite in a truck forced evacuations at Paramount Studios for nearly four and a half hours. He sought to speak with Janet Reno, spoke with police by cellphone, and walked away into custody near KCAL-TV after police sealed a seven-block area. Painter held on $1 million bail after flower shop attack

Kalvin Michael Smith, 26, a Winston-Salem house painter with prior arrests, was arrested Friday night and charged with armed robbery and assault in the December 9 1995 attack on Jill Marker at Silk Plant Forest.
