In Riverview Florida a passerby forgot a purse containing 50 and 100 dollar bills after stopping for grits. Sivana Cene 65 thanks shop owner Jean Leske who recovered the money, saying honesty proved stronger than temptation.
Angie Eileen Meadows, 19, faces embesslement charges after allegedly gift wrapping and taking Christmas gifts from boxes at a Tulsa department store. Assistant prosecutor Fred DeMier questioned the motive as Meadows reportedly worked part time at the store.

A federal appeals court ruled for South Carolina in a prison overcrowding dispute, sending the case back to district court. The 4th Circuit held that the state could continue placing two inmates in cells designed for one at the Women’s Correctional Center in Columbia, citing growing population and a consent decree. The center, holding 477 women, exceeds its designed capacity of 337.
At its annual meeting the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce named James A Moore Gloria Busch Johnson and Sheila Marie Walls as Man Woman and Youth of the Year. Moore a Pennsylvania native worked at Owens Corning Fiberglas and Westinghouse and has led local arts and education boards over 20 years in Aiken.
The final Census Bureau tally released Friday shows Aiken County with 120 940 residents, about 5 000 fewer than officials hoped, though up from 117 918 in preliminary counts. North Augusta 15 351 residents, New Ellenton 2 515, Wagener 731, and nearby counties Barnwell 20 293 and Edgefield 18 375 are noted. local officials express disappointment and vow to press for corrections.
