Settlement prompts women to join Texas A&M band and cadet corps
A U.S. District Judge approved a settlement requiring Texas A&M University to encourage women into its band and the Ross Volunteers elite cadet corps. The move followed Melanie Zentgraf’s 1979 suit after being denied admission to the Ross Volunteers and her graduation remarks criticizing male‑only policies. The school and attorney general defended the deal while regents criticized the approval.
