Thompson urges fair share of state funds for cities
Aiken assistant city manager Steve Thompson urged the county and state to redistribute funds to municipalities. He cited inequities in eight state revenue sources, noting cities receive a small share of taxes like income and gasoline taxes while counties gain most revenue. Thompson said a half percent county tax allocated to cities could direct about 136000 dollars to Aiken County, with 96477 going to Aiken itself. The 50 Plus Club heard his remarks at Houndslake Country Club chaired by Emmett Gober. Paul Kinsella led as club president.
