Academy trip to Atlanta High Museum exhibits offered
The Academy for Lifelong Learning at USC Aiken hosts a trip to Atlanta to view Verrocchio’s David and After Whistler exhibits. The $49 member price covers bus, lunch, admission, and tips. Aiken residents gather for the third annual Robert Burns Dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Dougherty Road at 6:30 p.m. Dixie Gordon-Lewis leads local Scots and tickets are sold at The Artist's Parlor South Side Gallery and Curiosity Shoppe. Critters draw curious crowds at Family Science Fest
Jefferson Elementary students pet a large alligator while avoiding a small rat snake during the Family Science Fest. Savannah River Ecology Lab staffer Sean Poppy and his wife Kacee showcased several critters. Organizers say the event, in place of a traditional science fair for 10 years, aims to spark interest in science through family activities and demonstrations by USC Aiken Ruth Patrick Center traveling scientists and local partners.

Instructional fair to be held at USC Aiken
An instructional fair for teachers will be held at USC Aiken on Saturday January 24 with the theme Empowering Teachers Promoting Educational Excellence for All Students. The seventh annual Math Science Language Arts and Technology Instruction Fair includes over 30 sessions and a 4.5 hour S.C Algebra Project workshop by Dr Betty Gasque of Francis Marion University. The keynote luncheon speaker Amanda Graham will discuss The Educational Renaissance Cognitive Coaching. The fair is co sponsored by Ruth Patrick Science Education Center USDA Phi Delta Kappa Aiken County School District and regional math and science centers.

AAUW Book Fair slated for March 5 in Aiken
The American Association of University Women hosts its 43rd Annual Book Fair on March 5 from 9 am to 5 pm and March 6 from 9 am to 2 pm at the old Belk building in Kalmia Plaza Richland Avenue. Proceeds fund local and national scholarships with donations welcome Saturdays 9 am to 3 pm and Tuesdays 9 am to 1 pm.
