Aiken County commissioners unanimously rejected Ronald A. LaCouture s six month plan to reorganize county government after a lengthy review. The board heard revised proposals from two commissioners but again rejected them while approving a $1 000 recovery from 3 071 missing funds and scheduling bond coverage for county officials and staff.
The USC Aiken Associate Degree Nursing Program received full accreditation from the National League for Nursing. Only two other associate degree nursing programs in the state share this honor. The NLN cited open communication among students, faculty and administration and the faculty’s genuine interest in students as individuals and learners.
The forecast calls for 60 percent rain tonight and tomorrow with scattered showers and warm temperatures continuing through the weekend. An umbrella is advised as unsettled conditions persist.
Aiken County jury found Douglas Durden 30 guilty of manslaughter in the Thanksgiving weekend death of Delmar Jackson Carter and sentenced him to 20 years. Judge Rhodes stated the verdict implied an unnecessary killing and noted no weapon was found on the deceased. The trial docket also included Michael Lee in a December armed robbery and murder case with a continuance granted for 9:30 a.m. start.
South Carolina GOP Leader Rep. Marshall Cain of Aiken County says he is leaning against a run for Congress this year due to ongoing legislative duties.
