Stamp honors Thurgood Marshall at Summerton ceremony
SUMMERTON Descendants of the Clarendon County desegregation case watched as a postage stamp honoring Thurgood Marshall, the first Black US Supreme Court justice, was unveiled in Washington. Rep. Jim Clyburn credited local supporters for Marshall’s work and recalled threats faced by plaintiffs, including the De Laine family, whose Summerton home was burned in 1950.
