Misaligned rail switch blamed for deadly cyanide train crash
A fiery crash of a sodium cyanide train near Lincoln Alabama was caused by a misaligned switch directing to a side track where it struck another train. NTSB investigator Richard Hipskind called the misalignment timing unclear and cited a dispatch office in Atlanta. Norfolk Southern spokeswoman Susan Terpay said findings are preliminary. Some chemical spilled during cleanup but did not threaten air soil or water, per state environmental agency spokesman Jerome Hand.
