Beech Island resident escapes house fire
Beech Island resident Russell Hawks escaped a fire at his Hallman Loop home near 2 a.m. Friday after attempting to save his dog. The two story house, built in the 1940s, was a total loss with the dog killed. Fire officials traced the cause to electrical shorts in the garage and rekindling forced firefighters to return around 5 a.m. Water had to be hauled from a hydrant a half mile away. The Red Cross is assisting Hawks with temporary housing.
