Pine Log Road work to add five lanes by 2001
Aiken City Manager says Pine Log Road will gain five lanes by July 31, 2001 to ease backups near the fiberglass plant. The $6.1 million project is funded 80 percent by the federal government and 20 percent by the state, with concrete utility poles from SCE&G replacing wooden poles to withstand 105 mph winds. The project will last about four months, after which focus shifts to the 118 bypass, which faces land-buying delays and local legal threats.
