Pilots in mistaken bombing case cite poor allied troop intel
At Barksdale Air Force Base Col. David Nichols testified that information on coalition troop locations in Afghanistan was basically nonexistent last spring when two Air Force pilots dropped a 500 pound bomb on Canadian soldiers, killing four. He said he warned superiors the pilots needed better friendlies data and described the bombers as highly capable pilots facing intense restrictions. The hearing examines involuntary manslaughter and related charges against Majs. Schmidt and Umbach, who may face up to 64 years in prison if convicted.
