Multiple burglaries and assaults reported in Aiken County area
A Beech Island woman faces assault and trespass charges after a Wednesday incident in Belvedere on January Lane. A Salley resident reported a theft of a Jack Russell valued at $500. A Dublin Georgia man is accused of assault and battery after a Wednesday night argument in Graniteville near Old Vaucluse Road. A company truck worth $1,000 was broken into on Augusta Road in Clearwater with steering column and lock damaged. A Dodge van worth $1,200 was stolen in Graniteville on A. P. Nivens Street. a nearby truck was damaged and a battery stolen. A burglary on Edgar Street in Warrenville led to $9,700 in loot including electronics and jewelry. A green Craftsman riding lawn mower valued at $3,000 was stolen from a Monetta home on Cato Road. A Saturday-Sunday burglary on Trolley Line Road in Aiken saw a $600 money order machine taken and about $500 in structural damage. JA Perryman is accused of assault and battery after a Wednesday argument on Festival Trail Road in Perry. A burglary on US 1 in Graniteville caused $500 in property damage with no losses. Former Aiken police chief Zip Hanna dies at 84
E. M. Zip Hanna, former Aiken police chief in the 1950s and 60s, died Jan 18 2001 at the V A Nursing Home in Asheville NC. A Columbia motorcycle officer, Rock Hill police chief, USC trainer and USC and Fort Gordon lecturer, Hanna was a Navy veteran and community leader. Funeral set for 1 pm Saturday at Dillard Memorial Chapel Pickens with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park. He is survived by wife Evelyn two sons Carey and Zip two daughters 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Memorials to Holmes Bible College Greenville SC.

Aiken Regional marks 25 years with time capsule and celebrations
Aiken Regional Medical Center kicked off a year long Silver Anniversary with a cafeteria event led by CEO Ricky Satcher. Plans include a February ceiling tile art project, a May associates and community picnic with The Fantastic Shakers, a fireworks finale, a black tie event in October, and burying a stainless steel time capsule in December to be opened in 25 years. Dr Allen Kirchner noted the hospital’s progress since opening 25 years ago and county officials praised its impact on local industry and care.

Robbie Robinson, 1989 Silver Bluff High School alumnus and founder of What Matters Most, credits SBHS Key Club with transforming his outlook. He described early selfish tendencies, then shared how service projects with children, including an Easter party for Helping Hands, and his work at Camp Bob Cooper and Walton Rehabilitation deepened his commitment. He now runs a nonprofit aiding children and has helped over 2,000 kids in five years. The Aiken Kiwanis Club hosts him as guest speaker.
