Petunia singers perform from youth to opera through February
The performers explained their start in singing and performing as children or teens and will continue touring the opera in the Carolinas and Georgia through Feb 18. They will then give up their animal costumes. Kessler’s past roles include Mimi in La Bohéme and she notes she often plays serious heroines. Kids asked how they produce such strong voices, likening it to athletes' training. Gordon says children were excited and asked insightful questions. Senior writer Rob Novit, Aiken Standard education reporter since 2001, hails from Walterboro and studied journalism at the University of Georgia.
