State panel rejects discount plan for Barnwell waste dumping
A South Carolina Budget and Control Board panel refused staff proposals to lower disposal fees at Barnwell to attract more low level waste. The move aims to protect about 31 million dollars in state grant funding while preventing revenue loss of roughly 3.5 million dollars this fiscal year. Most waste originates from out of state as the state charges 315 dollars per cubic foot.
