DOE oversight drawbacks tied to MOX facility costs at SRS

A group led by the Contract and Project Management Working Group finds DOE oversight inadequate at Savannah River Site MOX facility and other projects. They warn costs could rise from initial 1.1 billion in 2001 to 12 billion, with end total potentially above 12 billion, amid overruns and delays. The MOX project is 63 percent complete with 1,400 workers, part of a Russia plutonium disposition deal, and faces ongoing funding despite a cold standby push.
