Late Smith awarded Palmetto for community service posthumously
Greg Smith died in 2014 after a long battle with a brain tumor. He and his partner Steven Naifeh moved to Aiken in 1989, wrote 18 books, and started the Juilliard in Aiken Festival. The governor awarded Smith the Order of the Palmetto, accepted by Naifeh at an Aiken Rotary Club event, for their contributions to the community and bringing the Juilliard School to Aiken a festival.
