Times Co to Acquire Spartanburg Tuscaloosa Gadsden Papers
The New York Times Co. agrees to buy the Spartanburg Herald Journal, The Tuscaloosa News, and the Gadsden Times from the Public Welfare Foundation. The papers will join the Atlanta based regional group of 20 dailies and eight weeklies, boosting coverage in the Southeast. The Spartanburg paper, founded in 1844, circulates 47,000.
